Marathon - A Great Place to Live and Learn

Marathon, Texas is a small community in far west Texas where the pace of life is reminiscent of days gone by. People are friendly and our local hospitality is second to none. Numerous events throughout the year give Marathon residents tremendous opportunities to connect and socialize.

The desert mountain climate is a pleasure year-round.  Moderate summer temperatures and mild winters make outdoor activities enjoyable. Skies are generally crisp blue in the day and abound with dark skies and abundant star-viewing at night, making the Marathon area particularly attractive to astronomers, outdoor adventurers, and those seeking a breath of fresh air. Our local weather station provides details on current weather, clear sky conditions, and current moon phases. Please visit the Marathon community website to learn more about local events, tourism, businesses, and organizations.

Marathon ISD is a small 1A district in far West Texas (Region 18). We are one campus in two next-door buildings - an elementary building and a middle / high school building. We serve Pre-K through 12th grade students, and have an enrollment of 57 students.

Our schools provide a wonderful educational opportunity for students.  The faculty and staff are knowledgeable and kind but also challenge the students towards excellence.  Because class sizes are extremely small (4-5 students average), students' individual aspirations and needs can addressed. For those seeking a college path, Marathon ISD offers a rigorous curriculum and extensive dual credit opportunities. Our students can begin taking dual credit classes as freshmen which allows them to achieve up to sixty hours of college credit before graduation.

Marathon ISD is an accredited public school with several distinction designations from the Texas Education Agency to its credit. It is home to a dedicated faculty, commiteed parents, and motivated student body. It is a great place to grow and learn!
