The Texas Transparency Stars program is the next level of transparency accountability. The program recognizes government entities that provide clear and meaningful financial information through the posting  of financial documents as well as summaries, visualizations, downloadable data and other relevant information in the following specified areas.

Marathon ISD strives to continuously improve the level of financial transparency provided to our community and taxpayers. Our goal is to provide financial information in a format that is accessible and easily understandable to make informed decisions about the financial stability of the District.  The development of this website is one step closer or meeting our goal.

We believe this commitment is crucial in maintaining the public trust through good stewardship of public and taxpayer's dollars.

Marathon ISD will hold a public meeting at 6:00 PM, Monday, January 8, 2024, at the MISD High School Library, 109 N 5th Street, Marathon, TX

 

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss Marathon ISD’s rating on the state’s financial accountability system.

Financial integrity RAting system of texas (first reports)

Marathon ISD Receives aN "ABOVE sTANDARD Rating"  with a letter grade of "B" in TEA's Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST)​

The district received a score of 89 out of 100. 

School First ensures that Texas public schools are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices and that they improve those practices. The system is designed to encourage Texas public schools to better manage their financial resources to proved the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes.

Adopted Tax Rates and Property Values

The Marathon Independent School District Board of Trustees adopted a 2022 Maintenance and Operations Tax Rate (M&O Rate) of $0.9429 per $100 valuation.  The tax rate adopted is a lower tax rate than the 2021 Maintenance and Operations Tax Rate of $0.9790per 100 valuation adopted last year. 


Please Note:  The 2021 tax rate adopted exceeds the no-new revenue (previously called the effective tax rate) M&O rate of $0.8802 per $100 valuation.

THIS TAX RATE WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR'S TAX RATE ​THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY  BE RAISED BY 7.12 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $62.70
